It all begins... 288.0 lbs

Hello to all that have decided to visit this blog. You are most likely visiting because you have seen information about a goal of mine to help AIDs affected/infected orphans. I am not alone in this effort as I was proceeded by one of Peak 4 Poverty's biggest fans, Jenna (http://bit.ly/pvpjenna). She has set a goal for herself of running 1004 miles in order to raise money for this effort. I applaud her and her efforts. Check out her blog as well to keep up on her goals.

My goal is to lose 44.4 lbs prior to December 17th when a group of us will travel to Tanzania to work at the orphanages and with the children. It only takes $4 to feed a orphan for a week. Please check your pockets, car, dryer and anywhere else you might find loose change. Peak 4 Poverty's goal is to support the 215 children at the selected orphanages through the next school year. For 10 high school age children it costs approximately $4,444 to pay tuition & fees (no food).

I know I am in the mode of advertising P4P' s goals and missions but I feel that the background will help you understand the need. I am out here to reach my goal in order to help those less fortunate. I am praying that my work towards that goal will give you a connection to these children and inspire your giving.

As a personal goal I will also be in Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro with a team helping to raise money from this personal challenge. This is where the name Peak 4 Poverty originates and it symbolizes the goal of reaching for a lofty result in the support of many who do not have the opportunity. The first effort was achieved last December, 2009 and the second effort occurs this month with a couple of brothers raising money and climbing this mountain.

We will summit on the morning of December 25th and I feel an awesome day to stand at the top of this mountain and view the sunrise! What a marvelous Christmas morning view. The trip down will then occur on my birthday, December 26th providing me with the completion of a life altering achievement on a memorable day for me.

Support us in the effort to continue this twice a year event and watch our progress. We will be documenting our efforts through photographs, video, audio recordings and blogging the entire trip to the summit.

I will post to my blog as frequently as possible and no less than once per week where I will share my personal weight so you can keep an eye on me. I will also put together vlogs like Jenna and share some of my thoughts and insight to this journey of giving.

Please share this link with others you know, so that they can also participate in helping these children.

God bless you and your giving,
Shayne
